Employee Ride Spotlight: Tyler Sullivan's Mitsubishi Evo IX MR

This month DW is featuring an employee build by Tyler Sullivan, one of our Production Techs, a daily driven and raced 2006 Mitsubishi Evolution IX MR.

This 9th edition of the Mitsubishi Evolution was one of the last to get the legendary 4G63 motor; the motor is one of the most powerful 4-cylinders in the world. The top 9 out of 10 quickest Mitsubishi Evo’s in the world rock a 4G63.

Tyler isn’t going for world records in his Evo, but it’s no slouch either at the track or on the street. This past weekend, Tyler ran his personal best at Thunder Valley Raceway Park in Noble, Oklahoma, with a 10.62 @ 130.41 mph.

Under the hood is a stock 4G63 powered by a stock frame turbo with a full exhaust. The stock intercooler was replaced with an ETS Intercooler and Upper Pipe with a Tial BOV. The fuel system is a double pumper setup with DW 1500cc injectors. The car is tuned on E85 by Kevin at Evolution Dynamics, making just around 480 all-wheel horsepower.

There’s no way the stock 6-speed transmission could take the 400+ passes he has on this setup. So, Tyler decided to ditch the stock setup and went with a built DB Trans 5 speed conversion with an Exedy Twin Disc clutch. The car sits on BC coilovers and Hoosier slicks on all 4 corners.
