Atlanta Dragway in Commerce, Georgia, hosted the 10th Annual NMRA / NMCA All-Star Nationals this past weekend. This is one of the top events for both the NMRA and NMCA as drivers from both series go head to head to see who can make it to the winner’s circle in each class. From full-blown Pro Mods to your daily driven street cars, the All-Star Nationals is full of high-octane racing from start to finish.
DeatschWerks is an official NMRA and NMCA series sponsor for 2018 and pays contingency money in select race classes. DW is a full sponsor of several NMRA / NMCA race teams and drivers that run DW fuel system components such as fuel injectors, pumps, and regulators.
Despite the very inconsistent weather, the staff did a great job making sure the track surface was as prepped as possible in between the quick rain showers. Everyone brought their A-game and a few of our sponsored drivers ended up in the winner's circle. We would like to say congratulations to all winners and runner-ups from this past weekend running our DW fuel system components.
Starting off with one of the closest races of the weekend in the Edelbrock Renegade Class, it was DW Drivers Frank Varela in his '89 Mustang versus Tony Hobson in his '14 Mustang. Varela ended up taking the win by a fender with a 7.35 at 185.43 mph over Hobson's 7.41 at 185.77 mph.
In ProCharger Coyote Modified, it was DW Driver John Kauderer in his turbocharged '14 Cobra Jet up against Daniel Pachar in his '04 Mustang. Kauderer, unfortunately, spun the tires after his launch in the finals and lost to Pachar's 7.58 at 172.32 mph pass.
In the Exedy Racing Clutch Modular Muscle Class, DW Driver Jason Henson battled his way through the rounds and ended up in the finals with Shane Williams. When the dust settled, Henson took his '03 Mach 1 to the winner's circle with an 11.99 pass at 107.22 mph over Williams.
Another close race of the weekend was Geoff Turk and DW Driver Chuck Watson in the Holley EFI Factory Super Cars. Both Watson and Turk worked their way to the final round and Turk took the win with a 7.99 to Watson's 8.04. Talk about a photo finish!
In Steeda Limited Street, DW Driver Mike Washington and Kelly Shotwell drove their way through eliminations and ended up head to head in the finals. Shotwell edged ahead at the finish line with an 8.745 over Washington's 9.120 to take the win.
One of our NMCA sponsored drivers, Tom Calabrese, went into the Chevy Performance Street Car Challenge with one goal, to make it to the winner's circle and he did just that. Calabrese was consistent throughout each round in his 5th Gen Camaro and ended out on top with the win.
Last but not least, DW Driver Kurt Anderson raced through the rounds of the Open Comp Shootout and landed himself in the finals against Ricky Pennington. When the dust settled, Pennington took the win over Anderson in the finals to win the class.
We would like to again congratulate all of the winners and runner-ups of the 10th Annual NMRA / NMCA All-Star Nationals. It was a great weekend of racing and everyone poured everything they had into each round. Next up is the 18th Annual NMRA Ford Motorsport Nationals at Maple Grove Raceway in Mohnton, PA on May 3rd-6th and then the 17th Annual NMCA Bluegrass Nationals at Beech Bend Raceway in Bowling Green, KY on May 17th-20th.
